Chris Larson is a fourth-generation shareholder for IDEAL INDUSTRIES, INC. whose career at IDEAL spans a quarter of a century. As an owner who has worked day-to-day inside the business, Chris has developed a deep experiential knowledge of IDEAL’s products, people, the culture, and how it is expressed at IDEAL INDUSTRIES, INC. She is uniquely poised as an ambassador of the family values and a powerful conduit of the family and the company. Chris is a strategic relationship builder, manager, and connector, and this strength expresses itself through more than two decade’s worth of inventory management expertise in the manufacturing industry, concurrent with her work in family governance/family ownership risk mitigation with the IDEAL Executive Council(Family Council), and as Chair of IDEAL INDUSTRIES, INC. Foundation from 2000-2019. As Vendor Management Inventory Analyst, Chris and her team developed one of the industry’s premier inventory management programs, with customer satisfaction ratings in the high 90th percentile. Chris spearheaded the IDEAL 100-year anniversary book project as its historian. Asa result, she possesses a breadth and depth of knowledge of the family and company legacy and history that adds tremendous perspective and value to both corporate and family governance at IDEAL. Recently, Chris transitioned from her operational role in inventory management toa role as Chair of the IDEAL INDUSTRIES, INC. Family Assembly. She is also a key member of the IDEAL INDUSTRIES, INC. Family Council (executive council). In addition to her role as Chair of the IDEAL INDUSTRIES, INC. Foundation (501 c3)for nearly two decades, Chris has been a liaison between the family ownership group and company in the community through her board service leadership which includes the Ben Gordon Center (DeKalb County, IL), Kishwaukee United Way, Kishwaukee YMCA, and Opportunity House (Sycamore, IL). Chris’ unique experience as a family owner who has spent her career working inside the business in an operational role, coupled with a deep knowledge of the family and company history and legacy, provides a strategic perspective that will support the board in ensuring the full portfolio of returns for the family shareholders – financial, emotional, and relational.

If your family participated in this exercise 10 or more years ago, it’s time to revisit the values and assess whether they resonate with your NextGens. Society and technologies have changed. Do your values need to evolve, or are they still effective as rules to live by? Our panelists will share their views of about whether family values should be treated as a living document.

After the discussion, participants will have the opportunity to work on a values exercise.
